As soon as you let go of the lever, it goes forward again. A machine that old is probably in dire need of a cleaning anyway, so the cleaning technician would be able to show you if that machine has one. . Look on the main part of the machine. My mothers old machine had a "switch" that you pushed down for reverse and left up for forward. It was located on the main body of the machine on the left side just before the thread and needle area. Hope this helps. Do you have a local fabric store that sells sewing machines?
